Bagan Bari Concert

7th August 2004 Bagan bari concert
Drey Sarah who reached there first said it was actually an estate, or Estancia if you speak Spanish, rather than a farmhouse with barn! Sarah organized transport in an 11 seater with RA Bill, Sadia, the Kenworthy clan, Christyne & husband and Soma & Rahul.
I was Late Cummer of course. I got delayed swigging beer at the post rugby bash at CCFC after the CCFC beat the police. There were many Irish volunteers who had come to cheer the Future Hope team and they sang Irish drinking songs! I’ve invited them to the British Club on Thursday night to entertain us ;-) After getting tanked up at CCFC, we took Topsurd Chintu’s Scorpio with Azan, Ashish, Prashant and Mark and made a pit stop at the ITC Sonar Bangla before embarking on the 1 1/2 hour journey to Barasat. While we were visiting the toilets, the bellboys removed all our backpacks (with our bottles, rugby kit) thinking I was going to check into the hotel with Mark, Azan, Chintu and the boys to do a Tara MTV Fully Fata Fati programme no doubt! We had to take a picture with our luggage on the trolley! Then we stopped at Sher – E –Punjab for Tandoori Chicken,Thai soup and red curries in the drizzle… and while we were there we received news by sms and phone that the others had reached.
Wired was on when we arrived and Canadian Christyne had me go up to lead singer Neel Adhikari to request “Summer of 69” by our favourite Canadian singer. However that was sung by Nondon Bagchi, whom I went up to ask during their break, to Christyne “from across the Atlantic” just when she and Sarah were going across the garden to the toilets!!! All of us yelled Christyne and she eventually went up to dance! The dancers on stage were Ella Bella, Christyne, myself and Topsurd who taught Ella the chaki piso or mill dance!
There was a shamiana/ marquee, fans and lamps and therefore a lot of pole dancing! You’ll notice from the pictures that we had a table right at the back with about 20 people milling around sampling the peanut butter and jelly, pastrami, chicken salad sandwiches, popcorn that Bill & Sarah had packed, chicken pop corn, ham and cheese paninis from the Park, and some Brownies and cake! There were large Bisleri bottles of rum n coke and vodka orange. While Sarah had brought her Hallowe’en glasses, we’d pinched the paper glasses and lemon slices from the dhaba. Tubby had very decently provided a few glasses on each table too.
We proceeded to have a blast as the pictures show. Unfortunately the show ended sometime after midnight. This time we had Aaron in the car with us. A very inebriated Prashant sang along with the radio. We took the new flyover and highway back to Cal. going through puddles like rides at Aquatica which will certainly be a future hash venue one of these days.
On on, Late Cummer
