Kenilworth Hash report and forthcoming hashes
On Saturday 25th February at 3:30 p.m. Siddiqui, Debaroop and I met up with David Purdy at the Kenilworth on 7 Little Russell Street and organized the chairs and tables on the back lawn in front of the half finished kennels for David's rottweiler Bella and a Harlequin Great Dane that he still hasn't taken possession of. We were extremely entertained by Bella's antics and the only chicken in Calcutta who has no bird flu. Debaroop and I had picked up a carton of beers and we set to immediately making shandies with the Black Label. I started calling the other hashers to see if anyone was coming. Sex Guru Saw, the hare had hared off to Haldia with some delegation so he couldn't come. Molester drove in at 4:30. Madhuri also came along once I told her she didn't have to change into running gear as we were just sitting around enjoying the beer and a lazy afternoon in a quiet peaceful oasis before the dreadful heat of summer. David and his gurkha security staff were going back and forth making sure Bella didn't escape out of the gate and bringing out the beers nicely chilling in the fridge. Afroze also dropped by so we were able to collect enough hash cash to cover the cost of the beers. The hash was around the Kenilwrth hotel rooms. We saw David's father's innovation of a fan on a pulley system and Walsh had a go pulling it. The rooms are on rent at around Rs.2500 a night. Siddiqui was quite pleased with the breakfast menu but David's cook wasn't around. Madhuri had a wander around the sitting room with interesting Chinese bric a brac and then we wandered down the verandah back into the garden. Then the entertainment started. David brought forth his air rifle when Walsh saw a huge rat at the bottom of the garden. Walsh took a pot shot at it but it had scampered. He then had a shot at the city crows on the branches of a tree in the garden. David then set up a pet bottle on a cardboard carton and we all had a go at rifle practice. Molester taught us how we had to line up the sight a v and a line and we managed to hit the carton and the bottle quite easily so that it toppled off. Siddiqui turned out to be a crack shot and managed to get the pellet inside the bottle. Molester was most impressed and recoiled a few paces behind the bench to make things more difficult. We "killed time" quite happily till Lilly and my date with the 30 men at the Mr. India contest at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. Debaroop refused to come along as press photographer. Lilly came to meet us at the Kenilworth to get her green cocktail dress ironed. Lilly and Walsh were also due at the Hyatt for the farewell for Andrew, Kathy and Anna Hall. David had a reception on the hash boat Ahalya. While the staff took her dress off to be ironed by the corner istiriwalla, Lilly had a few shots at the bottle and managed to get it each time kneeling on the grass.
It took us 3 hours to finish the 12 bottles of beer between the 6 of us. And I still managed to pick the Mr. India. Note I said pick not pick up for we didn\'t stay there till the end!!! \n\n \nThose interested in the Nash Hash in Aurangabad in April please register. He is also joining the Tea Hashers as the Calcutta Hash Group is called Down South on the Sunday March 5th picnic and pandemonium hash where we'll be rolling on the river with the dolphins. We leave the Park Street Parcomat at 7:30 am and take a two hour drive down to Gadiara on the Ganges. We'll stop on the way for breakfast of paranthas at a highway dhaba and a picnic lunch there.
