Red Dress Run

RUN NO. 39 Taratola Environment Park Red Dress Run Ruth’s B’day Hash Bash
Hares: GM Molester, Pick Axe Pradeep
Visitors: Run with the Pack from Delhi
Newcomers: Amit, Ashish
Hashers: 20 odd

The hashers met on 12th June 2004 in batches in front of the Britannia biscuit factory on a non baking Saturday, -weather wise as well now that the monsoons have arrived in Calcutta! The hares accompanied by apprentice hares Bonani and Vasu waited at the Taratola Environment Park after laying the trails.

By 4 p.m. Lucky and the boys had reached and so had DD roaring up in record time all the way from Downtown Dharmatala on the dot of four as he swore he would. All of us showed off our red “dress”. I’d been shopping with Mexican Girl Alicita all day looking for track pants with a dash of red. My red Kingfisher T shirt from the Kodaikanal Nash Hash was also much admired and well in keeping with the Environmental Park theme where we saw geese and turkeys in a sort of petting zoo apart from the usual birds. Lickin’ Lucky however took the cake as he had a tiny red Puma tag on his otherwise grey track pants! DD dared to bare in the back seat of Alice’s car and changed into a red T shirt. Red flashes were noticed on sneakers, on sports bras, red ties with OK OK expired condoms from 1996… Leaving Fiddler and Fiddlee (in a Monsoon Reigns Tshirt with a sticker saying KRH3) to wait for their guests we made a convoy to the Park.
We counted 14 hashers who entered with Mexican Girl paying tickets. By the time we’d taken a long false trail, Fiddler and his new comers had arrived.

The red hashers followed the carpet of red flowers of the Flamboyant trees on the trail underfoot. We ran along the lakes or fish ponds and were spared having to wade through the water. Then we had to of course climb to new heights on Dung Beetle Mountain and like mountain goats climb down it. We were nearly goners on another trail facing a stampede of pigs and just as we were ready to follow the trail again, a squealing little runt came streaking past to join the rest of his pig family. That turned out to be another false trail. Sarah and I had become smart now to these loops, so we sent DD prospecting in the opp. direction. Sure enough, the trail continued leading us on to the perimeter of the park, onto a road that was being asphalted. DD remained on top of the trail with his low-slung jeans just arse-king to fall off his delicious derrière. That was one Down Down that we could all picture! We passed truckloads of lumber and huge drainpipes and then we were back in the park along the forest trail by the embankments. The breeze blowing across the waters cooled our dampened brows. Walking Indian file through this trail, Mexican Girl Alice, who had been taking pictures, took a toss that brought her even closer to Nature. Bean Town was just ahead of her and was able to help her to her feet. This fabulous last stretch of the trail brought us to the exit and the cars where I learnt that we were waiting for Soumitra and Run with the Pack who were late comers and were doing the trail on their own. Bonani and Vasu who had helped set the trail as apprentice hares had disappeared to get water for us at the end of the trail. So had Pick Axe Pradeep’s mobile and while we slaked our thirsts with water we tried to grill Alice’s driver from whose car it had vanished. As it was getting close to 5:30 we got the cars to move on to the Circle at the Birthday girl’s. While we waited for the GM to organise the beers, Ruth changed into a cute red top and we circled in the lawn festooned with fairy lights. The hares GM Molester, Pick Axe and Vasu got down downs for a great run. The new comers Ashish and Amit also got down downs. As they said they were in the leather and lubricants industry, amongst general hilarity we requested goatskin prophylactics for the Nash Hash Goody Bag! Duck Suck Carl was caught for new shoes and Lucky was unlucky enough to get off on the wrong foot by throwing too many charges and was made to drink beer from Carl’s new shoes too!
